Drenching
Drenching of sheep is conducted in a chute, where the animals are confined and unable to move.
- Check the drench gun has the correct dosage for that particular sheep. Check for leaks of the drench gun along with that it is working appropriately.
- Check the angle of the nozzle, ensuring that the curve is inwards.
- Approach the sheep from behind and place one hand under the jaw to keep the head horizontal or slightly upwards.
- Put the nozzle through the corner of mouth, over the tongue and deliver the dose to the back of the tongue.
- Ensure the sheep has swallowed the drench, then release your hand from under their jaw.
